The General Secretary of WFTU George Mavrikos underlined the long-standing and stable relations between WFTU and the trade union movement of Egypt and has noted the stable position of the organization on stopping the foreign interventions at the expense of the trade union movement of Egypt.

The WFTU from the first moment has condemned the manipulations of the ITUC, of USA trade unions and some European countries who aimed the fortune of ETUF, its role and position within the ILO, its role in the Arab world and in Africa.

The WFTU has the stable position that only the Egyptian workers are the ones who have the right to decide on the course of ETUF and not the foreigners or the instruments of foreigners in Egypt. Only the workers of Egypt themselves have the power to move on into the democratization of trade unions and their strengthening.

During the meeting some joint initiatives between the WFTU and the GTUPAWU Egypt were discussed and decided aiming the defense of workers ‘rights. The joint effort to support the Palestinian workers in Gaza who are suffering from unemployment and poverty because of the embargo imposed by Israel, was also agreed. Some joint initiatives will also be implemented for the sector of workers in local administration and public sector employees.

We finally note that GTUPAWU of Egypt has announced the resolution of the organization to affiliate as full member in the big family of WFTU.
